Honeycomb Core
Aluminum honeycomb core is a lightweight metal core material modeled after the honeycomb structure. It is made of multiple layers of aluminum foil through processes such as bonding, stretching and pressing to form a regular hexagonal hollow grid structure.
It is often used as a core sandwich material and compounded with face panels like aluminum plates and color steel plates to produce aluminum honeycomb panels, which are widely applied in fields such as building curtain walls, furniture manufacturing and rail transit.

Q2. What’s the difference between the regular honeycomb core and the fire-retardant honeycomb core?
A2. The regular core focuses on lightweight and load-bearing performance, suitable for interior decoration, furniture, etc. The fire-retardant core is processed with special fireproof coating or adopts flame-retardant alloy, which can meet fire ratings like BS 476 Part 7 Class 1 or ASTM E84 Class A. It’s widely used in high-rise buildings, subway stations, and other places with strict fire safety requirements.
Q3. Why is the aluminum honeycomb core so lightweight but still strong? What's its load-bearing capacity?
A3. The lightweight and high strength benefit from its honeycomb structure—this bionic design distributes stress evenly across the entire core surface, so it can resist bending, compression, and impact without excessive weight. The load-bearing capacity depends on specifications: for example, a 10mm-thick core (cell size 6mm, foil thickness 0.06mm) can bear a static load of 150–300kg/m², which is fully sufficient for wall panels, ceiling panels, and furniture panels.
Q4. What are the main applications of aluminum honeycomb core? Can it be used for curved panels?
A4. It's the core material of aluminum honeycomb panels, widely used in building exterior walls, interior decoration, furniture (desks, wardrobes), transportation (train carriages, ship interiors), etc. For curved panels, we can produce curved honeycomb core through mold pressing—just provide the radius of curvature, and we can customize it to fit your curved product needs.
Q5. Can the aluminum honeycomb core be cut, drilled, or machined? Will it deform during processing?
A5. Yes, it can be processed with conventional metalworking tools—cutting with a circular saw, drilling with a drill press, etc. To avoid deformation, we suggest fixing the core with a fixture during processing and choosing tools with sharp blades. If you need large-scale processing, our factory can provide pre-machined cores according to your drawings.
