Product Overview

The Aluminum Solid Panel is a custom-fabricated exterior wall cladding panel manufactured from a single homogeneous sheet of high-grade aluminum alloy (1100-H24, 3003-H24, or 5052-H32), precision CNC-cut, folded, bent, and welded into three-dimensional panel shapes. Each panel is structurally reinforced on the back with aluminum stiffener ribs (U-channel or hat-section) bonded with 3M VHB tape or Sika structural adhesive. The panel is finished with architectural-grade PVDF fluorocarbon coating (Kynar 500 or Hylar 5000 resin, 70% minimum PVDF) in 2-coat, 3-coat, or 4-coat systems for 25-30 year color and gloss retention. Unlike aluminum composite panels (ACP) with a combustible polyethylene core, aluminum solid panels are 100% non-combustible metal - Class A fire-rated, fully compliant with post-Grenfell global fire safety regulations for high-rise building facades. They offer unlimited design freedom (flat, curved, perforated, free-form), precision engineering (plus/minus 0.5 mm tolerance), and a permanent weather-resistant envelope. They are the benchmark material for landmark architectural facades worldwide.

Aluminum Solid Panel Exterior Wall Cladding FAQ

Q: 1. What is an aluminum solid panel for exterior cladding?

A: An aluminum solid panel (also known as aluminum single skin panel, aluminum rainscreen panel, or aluminum cassette panel - 铝单板 in Chinese) is a custom-fabricated exterior wall cladding panel manufactured from a single homogeneous sheet of high-grade aluminum alloy (typically 1100-H24, 3003-H24, or 5052-H32), formed into precise three-dimensional shapes through CNC cutting, folding, bending, and welding. Unlike aluminum composite panels (ACP) which sandwich a polyethylene or mineral core between thin aluminum skins, solid aluminum panels are one piece of metal through the entire thickness - with zero combustible content, zero lamination, and zero risk of delamination. The panels are reinforced on the back with aluminum stiffener ribs bonded by structural adhesive to maintain absolute flatness across large surface areas. They are finished with PVDF fluorocarbon coating for decades of weather resistance. Aluminum solid panels are the benchmark material for modern architectural façades worldwide - specified for landmark buildings, high-rise towers, airport terminals, and premium commercial developments where fire safety, design freedom, and long-term durability are non-negotiable.

Q: 2. What are the standard specifications?

A: Common specifications:
· Alloy grade: 1100-H24 (commercial pure, good formability), 3003-H24 (standard architectural, balanced properties), 5052-H32 (marine grade, high strength + corrosion resistance for coastal buildings)
· Panel thickness: 1.5mm, 2.0mm, 2.5mm, 3.0mm (2.5mm is the industry standard for high-rise façades; 3.0mm for ground-floor impact zones and high-wind areas)
· Maximum single-panel size: approximately 1500×4000mm from standard coil width; larger panels (up to 2000×6000mm) achievable through butt-welding with reinforcement
· Panel shape: flat (most common), single-axis curved, double-axis curved (hyperbolic), folded/creased, perforated, louvered, custom free-form
· Edge return (folded perimeter): 20–25mm on all sides - provides edge stiffness, weather barrier behind the joint, and attachment flange for the substructure
· Reinforcing ribs: aluminum U-channel, C-channel, or hat-section stiffeners bonded to the back of the panel with structural adhesive (3M VHB tape or Sika epoxy). Spacing 400–600mm depending on panel dimensions and wind load.
· Surface finish: PVDF fluorocarbon (Kynar 500® or Hylar 5000® resin) - the architectural standard for exterior façades. 2-coat (25–30μm), 3-coat (35–45μm), or 4-coat (45–55μm) system.
· Colors: solid (RAL, custom), metallic (mica, aluminum flake), pearlescent, color-shift, anodized-look, wood-grain transfer
· Weight: approximately 6.75 kg/m² at 2.5mm thickness - remarkably light for a solid metal panel
· Installation system: ventilated rainscreen principle - aluminum substructure (vertical mullions, horizontal rails) fixed to the building structure, with 30–50mm ventilated cavity between insulation and panel back

Q: 3. What is the minimum order quantity (MOQ)?

A: Aluminum solid panels are completely made-to-order - each panel is unique to its position on the building. The typical MOQ is 200–500 square meters (approximately 100–300 panels, depending on panel size). For small projects (50–200 m²), fabrication is possible with a small-order surcharge. For large commercial projects (1,000+ m²), volume pricing applies.
The quotation process requires:
· Architectural drawings: elevations showing panel grid layout, joint dimensions, and special panel shapes
· Panel schedule: a list of every panel with its dimensions, shape type (flat, curved, etc.), and quantity
· Finish specification: PVDF coating system, color code (RAL, custom sample), gloss level
· Sample panel (150×150mm or 300×300mm): provided free of charge for color and finish approval before mass production

Q: 4. Where are aluminum solid panels used?

A: Common exterior applications:
· High-rise office and residential towers: full curtain wall cladding - the defining façade material for contemporary skyscrapers. Compliant with fire codes for buildings of any height.
· Airport terminals: vast wall surfaces with tight flatness tolerances - landmark projects including Beijing Daxing, Shenzhen Bao'an, Singapore Changi
· Convention and exhibition centers: large-format panels for expansive, monolithic wall planes - fire-safe for public assembly occupancy
· Stadiums and sports arenas: curved and perforated panels for iconic architectural forms; perforated panels for acoustic treatment and ventilation
· Metro, railway, and bus stations: durable, vandal-resistant, graffiti-resistant, easy-to-clean wall cladding - fire-rated for underground and enclosed transport spaces
· Hospital façades: hygienic, chemical-resistant, easy-to-clean exterior surfaces with fire safety compliance
· Shopping malls and retail centers: column cladding, entrance portals, fascia panels, canopy soffits
· Hotel and resort exteriors: architectural feature walls, balcony cladding, louver screens for solar shading
· University and school buildings: modern educational facility exteriors with varied panel shapes and colors - inspirational learning environments
· Museum and cultural center façades: custom-shaped panels that realize the architect's sculptural vision - the Guggenheim Bilbao effect in aluminum
· Data centers and industrial façades: durable, low-maintenance, fire-safe exterior envelope for mission-critical facilities

Q: 5. What are the advantages over ACP (aluminum composite panels) and other cladding materials?

A: ① Class A fire rating - the decisive advantage over ACP: aluminum solid panels contain zero combustible material - no polyethylene (PE), no mineral core, no adhesive laminations. They are 100% non-combustible metal, achieving Class A (GB 8624) and A1 (EN 13501-1). Following global fire safety regulatory changes (post-Grenfell and similar tragedies), combustible-core ACP is banned on buildings above certain heights in most countries. Aluminum solid panels are fully compliant with the strictest regulations and are the specified replacement for PE-core ACP on high-rise buildings worldwide.
② Design freedom without limits: unlike ACP which is limited to flat or gently curved panels (the composite structure resists deep forming), solid aluminum can be folded, bent, welded, and formed into virtually any shape - flat planes, tight-radius curves, compound curves, hyperbolic paraboloids, folded origami geometries, perforated screens, and free-form sculptural surfaces. 3D parametric designs from BIM models are directly translated to CNC fabrication data.
③ Superior flatness and no oil-canning: thin-skinned ACP (0.5mm aluminum skins) commonly exhibits oil-canning - visible waviness and rippling across the panel surface under certain lighting conditions. Solid 2.5–3.0mm aluminum panels, with engineered reinforcing ribs, maintain flatness tolerance of ≤2mm over a 2m straight edge - a mirror-like flat surface even in grazing light.
④ PVDF coating durability - 25–30 year warranty: PVDF fluorocarbon coatings (Kynar 500® / Hylar 5000®) are the gold standard for architectural metal coatings. The carbon-fluorine bond is one of the strongest chemical bonds in existence, providing extraordinary resistance to UV degradation, acid rain, salt spray, industrial pollutants, and fungal growth. Warrantied color and gloss retention of 25–30 years.
⑤ Impact resistance: a 2.5mm solid aluminum panel is highly dent-resistant. Ground-floor panels, which are vulnerable to vehicle impact, shopping carts, and vandalism, are specified at 3.0mm thickness. ACP, with its 0.5mm skins, dents easily and cannot be repaired - the entire panel must be replaced.
⑥ Corrosion resistance - even in coastal environments: aluminum's natural oxide layer provides inherent corrosion protection. PVDF coating adds a durable barrier. For buildings within 5km of the sea (salt-laden atmosphere), 5052-H32 marine-grade alloy provides superior pitting corrosion resistance. Stainless steel (316 grade) fixings and substructure components complete the corrosion-resistant system.
⑦ Lightweight - reduces structural costs: at 6.75 kg/m² (2.5mm), solid aluminum panels are a fraction of the weight of alternative solid cladding materials - granite/stone (50–60 kg/m²), precast concrete (80–120 kg/m²), terracotta (40–55 kg/m²). The weight saving cascades through the building structure: lighter mullions, smaller brackets, reduced structural steel, smaller foundations.
⑧ Precision-engineered fit: CNC fabrication (±0.5mm tolerance on panel dimensions) and digitally coordinated substructure ensure perfect-fit installation with consistent joint widths. BIM clash detection eliminates field modifications. The result is a visually flawless façade with crisp, uniform joints.
⑨ Sustainable and fully recyclable: aluminum is infinitely recyclable without loss of quality. Recycling aluminum requires only 5% of the energy needed for primary aluminum production. At the end of the building's life (50–100 years), the aluminum panels have high scrap value and are fully recycled. EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) documentation is available for green building certification (LEED, BREEAM, Green Star, DGNB).
⑩ Low maintenance - self-cleaning in rain: PVDF coating's low surface energy resists dirt adhesion. Normal rainfall provides natural cleaning for most façades. For sheltered or heavily soiled areas, periodic low-pressure water washing (every 2–5 years) restores the original appearance. No repainting, no sealing, no restoration - the finish lasts the design life of the building.

Q: 6. What surface finishes and design options are available?

A: PVDF coating systems - the standard for architectural exteriors:
· 2-coat system (primer + color, 25–30μm): the most common - solid and standard metallic colors. Suitable for most building locations.
· 3-coat system (primer + color + clear, 35–45μm): enhanced durability and depth. Bright metallics, pearlescents, and special-effect pigments. Recommended for premium and coastal projects.
· 4-coat system (primer + barrier + color + clear, 45–55μm): maximum durability. Includes a barrier coat for aggressive environments (industrial, high-UV). Best color consistency for critical color-match projects.
Color options:
· Solid colors: full RAL Classic, RAL Design, NCS, and custom color matching. Matte (25–35 GU), satin (40–55 GU), gloss (65–80 GU).
· Metallic colors: aluminum flake, mica, and pearlescent pigments. Sparkle effect from fine to coarse. Color-shift (chameleon) pigments that change hue with viewing angle.
· Anodized-look PVDF: metallic coating that replicates the appearance of anodized aluminum - popular for contemporary architecture
· Wood-grain PVDF: realistic wood textures transferred onto the PVDF base - the warmth of wood with the durability of aluminum. Suitable for exterior timber-look façades.
· Stone / concrete texture PVDF: coatings that mimic natural stone, terracotta, or concrete - matching tactile texture
Surface texture (applied by the coating process or pre-treatment):
· Smooth: the standard - clean, modern, reflective
· Fine texture (orange peel): subtle texture that hides minor surface imperfections and reduces glare
· Sand / stucco texture: deliberate coarse texture for tactile and visual interest
· Brushed metal (pre-coating): mechanical brushing of the aluminum surface before coating - the texture shows through the translucent PVDF
Perforated panels (combined function of cladding + sunscreen + acoustics):
· Hole shapes: round (most common), square, slotted, hexagonal, or custom
· Hole diameter: Φ1.0–50mm; micro-perforation (<2mm) for subtle visual texture
· Open area: 10–50% - balance between visual transparency and solar shading performance
· Perforation pattern: regular grid, staggered, gradient (varying density), or custom image/logo
· Backing: acoustic fleece (for sound absorption), black mesh (for visual opacity), or open (for transparency and ventilation)

Q: 7. Is the panel fire-resistant?

A: Yes, unequivocally. Aluminum solid panels are 100% non-combustible. The aluminum alloy substrate (1100, 3003, or 5052) is a non-combustible metal classified as Class A under GB 8624 and A1 under EN 13501-1. The PVDF coating, applied at a thin film thickness (25–55μm) on the non-combustible substrate, is negligible in its contribution to fire and does not support flame spread.
This absolute fire safety is the fundamental reason aluminum solid panels have become the mandated replacement for PE-core ACP worldwide:
· China: GB 50016 - buildings ≥24m must use Class A cladding on the façade (effectively bans PE ACP for high-rise)
· UK: Approved Document B (post-Grenfell) - buildings ≥18m require limited-combustibility materials (A2-s1,d0 or better)
· UAE (Dubai): Civil Defence Code - all buildings above 15m require non-combustible cladding
· Australia: NCC 2019 - non-combustible cladding required on buildings ≥3 storeys (Type A and B construction)
· USA: IBC - combustible cladding restricted based on building height and construction type
Fire certifications:
· GB 8624: Class A (non-combustible)
· EN 13501-1: A1 (no contribution to fire)
· ASTM E84: Class A (flame spread index 0, smoke developed index 0)
· BS 476 Part 4 & 7: non-combustible, Class 1 surface spread of flame
· Full curtain wall system fire tests: BS 8414 / NFPA 285 - system-level fire propagation testing for the complete wall assembly
Fire test reports and compliance certificates are provided with every project.

Q: 8. What is the typical production lead time?

A: Typical project timeline:
· Design and shop drawing phase: 2–4 weeks - panel grid optimization, joint design, panel schedule, coordination with other trades
· Sample panel production and approval: 2–3 weeks - 1–3 full-size panels with the specified coating for client sign-off
· Mass production (once approved): 4–8 weeks - for 2,000–10,000 m² project size
· Large-scale projects (10,000+ m²): phased delivery over 8–16 weeks
Total end-to-end lead time from order confirmation to first delivery: approximately 6–10 weeks.
Production capacity: a medium-to-large fabrication facility produces 3,000–8,000 m² of panels per day. The bottleneck is typically the PVDF coating line (outsourced to specialized coaters - AkzoNobel, PPG, Becker, or Valspar approved applicators). Rush production (3–4 weeks) is possible for time-critical projects at a premium.
We recommend engaging the panel fabricator during the design development phase (DD stage) - 4–6 months before panels are needed on site - to optimize the panel design for manufacturability, cost, and lead time.

Q: 9. How are the panels packaged and shipped?

A: Packaging: Aluminum solid panels are custom-shaped and finish-critical - proper packaging is essential to arriving on site in perfect condition.
· Each panel is wrapped in low-tack PE protective film (factory-applied immediately after coating)
· Panels are separated by custom-shaped foam or corrugated cardboard spacers that match the panel profile
· Panels are stacked on custom steel A-frame stillages or flat wooden pallets depending on panel shape (A-frames for most panels; flat pallets only for small, flat panels)
· Secured with soft polyester ratchet straps (never metal banding - scratches the PVDF coating)
· Enclosed in plywood crates or covered with heavy-duty waterproof tarpaulins for open-top transport
· Each panel is labeled with a unique QR code or panel ID linking to its position in the BIM model and installation drawing
Shipping:
· Domestic: dedicated curtain-side or air-ride flatbed trucks - door-to-door with real-time GPS tracking
· International: FCL sea freight in 40HQ containers or open-top/flat-rack containers for oversized panels. FOB/CIF terms.
· Air freight: for urgent, high-value panels - typically reserved for sample panels and replacement panels
Damage rate: with engineered packaging, transit damage rate is <0.3%. Any transit-damaged panel is replaced at our cost.

Q: 10. How are aluminum solid panels installed?

A: Installation - the ventilated rainscreen system (the industry standard for drained and ventilated façades):
① Substructure installation: aluminum vertical mullions (6063-T5/T6 extruded profiles) are fixed to the building's structural slab edge, concrete wall, or steel frame via hot-dip galvanized or stainless steel support brackets. Brackets incorporate slotted holes for 3D adjustment. Mullion spacing: 900–1500mm depending on wind load and panel module.
② Thermal isolation: thermal break pads (PVC, nylon, or rubber) are placed between brackets and the building structure to prevent thermal bridging - critical for energy code compliance.
③ Insulation layer: mineral wool or rock wool insulation (80–150mm thick, 80–120 kg/m³ density) is mechanically fixed to the building substrate with impaling pins and retaining washers. A vapor-permeable, water-resistant breather membrane is installed over the insulation.
④ Ventilated cavity: a 30–50mm continuous air gap is maintained between the back of the aluminum panels and the insulation/membrane. This cavity:
- Drains any water that penetrates the open joints (rainscreen principle)
- Ventilates the cavity - convective airflow dries residual moisture
- Pressure-equalizes the cavity with outside air pressure - reduces the force driving rainwater through joints
⑤ Panel fixing: aluminum panels are secured to the substructure using 304 or 316-grade stainless steel screws, rivets, or bolts through the pre-drilled holes in the panel's folded return edges. Fixing methods:
- Visible fixing with color-matched screw caps (most common, economical, easy to replace individual panels)
- Undercut anchoring (invisible fixing from the back - premium, seamless appearance)
- Cassette / tray system: panels hook onto horizontal rails - fully demountable without tools
- Clip system: spring clips engage slots in the substructure - fastest installation
⑥ Joints and weather sealing:
- Open joints (6–20mm): the standard for ventilated rainscreens - the dark cavity behind the joint (lined with black EPDM membrane or aluminum baffle) creates a shadow line that visually controls the joint width
- Closed/weather-sealed joints (with silicone sealant and backing rod): for buildings in extreme weather locations or where internal pressure control is required
⑦ Quality control during installation:
- Laser scanning for panel alignment: ±2mm deviation per floor, ±10mm over the full building height
- 2m straight-edge flatness check on installed panels
- Joint width gauge check: ±1.5mm from specified joint width
- Pull-out testing of fixings: sample testing on 1% of fixings
- Water spray testing of weather-sealed joints where specified
⑧ Contractor requirements: installation must be performed by a qualified curtain wall contractor with experience in ventilated rainscreen systems. We provide:
- Full installation manual and method statement
- BIM model with every panel positioned and numbered
- Panel layout drawings (elevations with panel IDs)
- Installation sequence plan (optimized for crane time and site logistics)
- On-site technical support for the initial installation bay
- Training for the contractor's installation team
